Why Social Networks are Particularly Popular in India?

A rapid increase in mobile phone penetration in emerging economies like India, coupled with an escalation of low-cost handsets, are accountable for propelling the growth of Indian social networking sites. India now has the second largest number of internet users in the world, racing past countries like China & Germany.
Top social networking sites, like Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook among others, had previously reported about their tremendous growth in India, and how their daily users shot up after the arrival of Jio in the mobile network market. Whatsapp, which was acquired by Facebook in early 2014, reported more than 200 mn daily active users in India. And the numbers are rising at an exponential rate.
Social networking sites have become the new talk of the town, and we can’t imagine our lives without it. And not just as a unit of communication, it has also become a popular notion to promote products, music events, or give out one’s opinion about something. But why social sites have become the new darling of the internet and why people are constantly chasing it?

Provides an Opportunity to Meet New People-
India is very much a closed society. This may not be particularly noticeable in the prominent Indian cities like Delhi and Mumbai, but it is very much true for Tier 2 and 3 cities, and obviously rural areas. Internet penetration has improved noticeably throughout India. Almost every household has at least one Smartphone. To meet new people, all you need is a smartphone device, and an internet service provider to communicate with someone sitting outside India. Before the advent of top social networking sites, the chat room was the only medium for communication, where you had to sit before your laptop for hours to get your message across. And we all know how that was disrupted by Facebook.
LinkedIn made it easy for people to connect with like-minded individuals and empowered companies to look for the most desirable candidate through it. Social media brought people together, irrespective of distance!
Social Media Sites Are User-Friendly-
Social networking sites are user-friendly and host a number of attractive things which makes them a calm and vibrant place for a user to be at. These sites don’t require any hard-core IT knowledge and therefore can be navigated by the young teens as well. It also presents a better way to communicate with people, than the traditional methods, whilst giving them an environment of safety. The mobile versions are filled with vibrant colors which pose joyous vibes, thus, making these social networking sites even more user-friendly.
Gives an Opportunity to Make a Mark-
Perhaps the most important thing which is giving a push to the Indian social networking sites. The internet gives an opportunity to make a mark and build a unique identity in front of millions of people. Often addressed as influencers, these people are shaping the whole internet. Anyone can be an influencer if s/he sticks to their niche and concentrates on giving good content to the people. Not just this but it also gives an opportunity to earn through their passion.
Top social networking sites like YouTube, Instagram etc are giving a platform to people to showcase their talent and become a popular notion among masses.
They Are Free To Use-
This is one of the most important factors of why social networking sites have become a popular notion among India masses. Most of the top social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, Google + are free, which has made them open to everybody. Don’t stress over on how they manage their operations despite being free as most of their revenue comes from advertising. The popular saying of ‘nothing comes free’ ended with the advent of India social networking sites.
Now you can vent all your frustration related to politics, job, or anything through the internet. Internet gave people the power to be anonymous and present their beliefs to the world. The genesis for creating this platform is to give a place where people feel free to vent their frustrations on numerous norms without the fear of getting judged. So, if you’re frustrated with office bickering, current political scenario or any other thing then the internet is the perfect place for you.
There are a number of threads on Reddit or anonymous profiles on Quora where you can vent your inhibitions without fearing anyone.
A Chance to Join a Group of Your Interest-
Nothing feels good than talking to someone who respects your opinion or shares a similar mindset. And the internet has given a perfect platform to find and join a similar group. Whether someone wants to talk about science, the latest movie theory, or why Jon Snow knows nothing, they can do it all on the internet. You can also make your own community on these social networking sites and share your thoughts and views with the world out there.
Websites like Quora has made it easy for people to ask questions with a connoisseur of that topic, and resolve all the problems.
It Helps Business to Reach Out-
Another key aspect that propelled the internet revolution in India is that it enables businesses to reach out to more people at a fraction of cost. Indian social networking sites have completely changed the whole landscape of the marketing in India and now more and more businesses are jumping on the bandwagon to promote their products through social media sites. Social media sites have developed a target based advertising model which helps a business to reach potential customers.
Top social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram etc access the data given by the users and help business to properly target them.
The internet has opened the floodgates around the world for better communication and is breaking all the boundaries. Many Indian social networking sites have enabled people the rights which they were ridden of in the past. And that’s why these social networking sites are becoming this popular in India.

Ways to Identify and Report Sexual Abuse

In the age of #MeToo and #Times Up, women across the world have supported each other to come out and bring to the eyes of the public the horrifying sexual abuse stories that went unseen for decades. Being vocal about such unfortunate events gave women the strength to not be afraid anymore.
While many are still yet to come out of the closet, the two said movements were the biggest first steps we could’ve taken to create awareness and eradicate ignorance.
But before we get to the awareness stage, there’s another very important topic that deserves equal public attention: Identification.
Sadly, the male chauvinism and misogyny ingrained in our society are the root causes of why we ignore the misbehavior of men in many situations that we shouldn’t. The phrase ‘men will be men’ is nothing but a forced rationalization for all the excuses that lead them to commit crimes. Which is why so many people fail to identify when they are being sexually abused by someone because other people mask it as ‘playful fun’ or ‘this is how it is supposed to be’? We, as a society, have not told our women, and our men alike, where to draw the line.
metoo-2859980__480
We are certainly not denying the idea that men don’t get abused. At least 1 in 6 men have experienced assault in their life, whether as a child or an adult. And why most men are not vocal about it can also be rooted back to the perfect masculine image that has been painted for men over the decades – ‘men don’t cry’.
It is even more difficult for children to speak up about their experiences because the young minds cannot differentiate between a loving touch and molestation. As per, National Statistics, 53% of children are abused. Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar reported the maximum number of cases.
It is time to rethink our sex education curriculum.
If you suspect that a child in your family or your friend’s family might be suffering from sexual abuse, here’s what you need to know:
Identifying Abuse in Children
  1. Distance: Children tend to step away from people who harm them. Pay attention to who the child feels reluctant to be with alone.
  2. Sleep Problems: If a child is seeing nightmares or is having trouble sleeping, they might be afraid to confide in their adults regarding their problems. Recognize that.
  3. Change: You may see changes in their everyday behavior, from the way they talk to their regular habits. They may be distant or may seem to have lost their focus.
Identifying Abuse in Adults
  1. Anxiety: Sexually abused people may seem to be a lot more anxious than others. You may notice their sudden change in the way they see life. A sense of restlessness and physical insecurity may indulge them.
  2. Depression: Emotional health may plunge either towards anxiety or depression. Notice if someone you know is showing signs of depression. They may avoid social interactions and become more and more distant.
  3. Guilty Feelings: Notice if a friend starts blaming him/herself for every little mistake. They may keep iterating phrases like, ‘It is all my fault’. Talk to them and make them comfortable so that they can confide in you.
Preventing Abuse in Children
  1. Sex Education: Teach your children about body parts. Tell them what each part is called and why they shouldn’t be shy in saying those names either. Teach them which parts should remain private and if someone tries to touch them there, they’re supposed to report.
  2. Boundaries: Teach your children about body boundaries. Kids need to understand why it’s not okay to let someone touch them or touching someone else. Statistics show that most abuse cases start with the abuser asking the children to touch his parts.
  3. Getting Out of Uncomfortable Situations: Teach your children how they can get out of situations where they might feel threatened. Give them specific phrases that can be used by them as excuses to get out.
Preventing Abuse in Adults
Top social media platforms empowered the #MeToo and #Times Up movements after a few women mustered up the courage to share their stories. As more and more stood up, a wave of confidence flowed throughout the world.
The many stories that were told also helped some people relate to them and, hence, recognize that they were suffering from assault too.
Sharing stories is important. When we confide in someone, it builds our confidence in other people and we know we are not alone. Listening to other people’s stories gives us relief that we are not the only ones going through these situations. Therefore, women should go out and own Indian social networking sites and share as many experiences as they can. While it is one way to share the frustration, it might be just what someone else needs to take the leap.
Expressing yourself is extremely important for a healthy mind. The more we express, the more we connect with people. And under unfortunate circumstances like these, the people around us become our support and help us get through tough times.

Not getting good customer service? Here’s how to make yourself heard

As consumers, we all have some basic rights. These include – the right to get what you pay for, share frustrations and complain when you are not satisfied with a product or a service, and get your money back when you have a legitimate complaint. But, sometimes despite repeated requests and complaints, a vast majority of companies respond in the exact same way – with the quiet of contempt! Should you just be a victim of this trend or is there something you can do about it? Yes, you definitely can. There are no magical ways to get action on a complaint, but there are definitely some effective steps you can take to ensure your complaint is heard. This article offers suggestions to help you get your complaints heard when you have a problem with the purchase of product or service.
customer service
Noise gets attention
There is an old proverb that says, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” It means it’s only when you make noise, you get attention. Unless you let a merchant or vendor know you are dissatisfied with their goods or services, you have no chance of resolving the problem. So, never sit quietly if you are dissatisfied with a product or service. You can write reviews on Indian social networking sites, register a complaint on the company’s website or even take the legal route if your complaint is not heard.
Go to the Company’s Website:
When you are unhappy with a product or service, the first thing you need to do is go to the company’s website and write to the customer service.  Never have too many expectations in mind, but if you received bad product or service they will probably apologize and offer you some solution to address your problem.
  • If there is no Customer service, you can also write to the manager or any other person listed on the website and share frustrations related to products/services with them.
  • Let them know specifically what happened when it happened, and where it happened.
  • Having photographs and other shreds of evidence will make your case stronger.
  • Complaining in a private manner to a company’s management can also lead to a satisfactory resolution and apology. The company may even appreciate you for not alerting the public to any mistake their team has made.
For example: Recently, a customer purchased an outfit from Amazon.in. The color and fit of the outfit were different from what the seller had shown on the website. On receiving the product, the customer felt deceived and he immediately called the customer service to get a refund for his purchase. Despite calling up repeatedly, when his problem was not addressed, he decided to write directly to Amazon. After writing to Amazon, he not only got a refund for his purchase but also got a gift voucher from the company as a goodwill gesture.
Use the power of social media to get your voice heard
Social media has brought about a dramatic change in the way that businesses and customers interact. The convenience and transparency which has resulted because of the social media are challenging boardrooms and customer service professionals like never before.
  • Indian social networking sites have become a convenient way for shoppers to register their concerns.
  • They don’t just allow you to share frustrations in order to “get it off your chest” or to warn others away from the business, but they also serve as a medium for grievance redressal.
  • Using social media customers can easily voice their concern in relation to a product or service.
  • Companies also make the best efforts to respond to the complaints quickly and appropriately in order to increase customer loyalty and retention.
Let’s consider this example: During a four-hour flight, a person’s seatback TV malfunctioned while the rest of the passengers had normally functioning TVs. He took the social media route and wrote a complaint to JetBlue using social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Vent All Out. The platforms helped him vent out. His posts showed that he was clearly disappointed. When the post became viral, JetBlue got to know about it. They not just empathized with him but also offered him a credit for his trouble. That’s the power of social media!
Burrp/Mouthshut
They are very popular sites that let customers rate local businesses of all kinds. If a business is not delivering on their promises and delivering bad products or services, you can write a review on Burrp or Mouthshut.com. In this age of the internet when bad reviews spread very fast, online reputation management is very important for businesses, companies will do anything to turn their unhappy customers into happy customers and get positive reviews from them.
Using Government portals to complain
Register a complaint with National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission
There is a common misconception amongst the consumers in India that filing a complaint with consumer forum is a tedious process that yields no result. But it’s not true. A harassed consumer can very easily file an online complaint with the consumer forum and get a fast redressal at a nominal rate.
According to data from the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), the commission has disposed of 86.96 % cases since its inception. The process of registering the complaint is also very simple and the status of registered complaints can be easily tracked online.
Use Government’s consumer helpline
It is a government portal, launched by the Ministry of consumer affairs to redress consumer grievances and act as a portal for lodging consumer complaints. If you want a resolution to your problem try this site because this site brings Consumers, Private Companies, Central and State Government Agencies, Middlemen, Regulators, and call centers etc. onto a single platform. On this portal, your complaints may not be fully or satisfactorily resolved but it’s definitely worth a try.
Tips to complain in an effective manner
There are many valid reasons to complain when customer service proves unsatisfactory. Here are some tips to complain in an effective manner:
  • Voice your complaints in a professional manner: While it’s understandable that when you are angry, you may feel like yelling and cursing, but if you keep a level head when writing your complaint, you will sound more credible.
  • Keep documentation: Phone calls are harder to document. So keep track of email correspondence. Take screenshots of live chats. These will serve as a proof when discussing your complaint.
Bad customer interactions happen but that should not be used as an excuse by companies to ignore customer complaints. Good companies who value customer service will always make sure mistakes are addressed on time and avoided in the future. So, don’t suffer in silence or let your hard earned money to waste. Use the power of Indian social networking sites to make your voice heard. The sooner you raise your voice, the better your chances are for a satisfactory settlement.

How Sharing Your Daily Chores and Relationship Issues on Social Media can Help You Come out Stronger and with a Different Perspective

There are many people who argue that we are too hooked to social media to really notice the world around us. But if we look at the positive side, social media not just help us to connect with people but also helps us share frustrations and find help in difficult times. Think of the number of times someone known to you posted about their daily problems and relationship issues on social media and the range of responses of people eager to help. Social media can be a great boon in times of distress, depending on how you use it. There are clearly so many options available to us now when it comes to sharing our problems on social media.
Here are just a few examples that illustrate how social media helps us to cope with difficult times and gain mental strength:
daily chores
It helps us understand that we are not alone in our battle
It’s only when people share their problems on social media, they realize they are not alone in their problems. They are surprised to find out that many people on social networking sites have experienced those issues at some point in their lives. This realization usually brings about a feeling of relief to them. It helps them gain the understanding for perhaps the very first time in their life that many others have similar battles. For example: When we are deeply hurt by someone we love, let’s say a family member, we feel hurt, betrayed and depressed. And when such strong emotions cloud our mind, we often end up feeling all alone. It can be very lonely and frustrating if there’s no one to share your frustrations with. In such situations, talking to people online, hearing their stories and experiences make us feel better and stronger.
Learning helpful information
People on social networking sites can offer lots of practical tips and resources for dealing with identified concerns. You can also find many members on Indian social networking sites who share their success stories, tips, and strategies that helped them walk the path to happiness. There are many groups on social media that specifically focus on dealing with stress and practicing specific coping skills. This can be particularly very helpful for people struggling with mental health issues.
Express your feelings without any inhibitions
After you realize you aren’t alone in your battle, you can feel free to share frustrations within a safe and supportive environment. Safe and supportive social media platforms like Vent All Out will help you feel comfortable sharing your feelings and frustrations. This can be a very therapeutic and healing experience, particularly if you have no one to share your feelings with. You will find many users on this platform who will listen non-judgmentally and will praise you for your openness and courage.
Gain hope and positivity
When you see or read about other people on social media who have defeated their battles and made great strides toward having happier and healthier lives, you tend to feel more positive and motivated. These positive role models on Indian social networking sites show you that recovery is very much attainable. For example, A Youtuber started posting videos of her battle with cancer and her experience with chemotherapy. Very soon, users from across the globe were sharing their own stories with her. Some even blessed and appreciated her for helping so many people struggling with the dreaded disease. How comforting is that!
Share your problems anonymously
Some people seeking help may not want to make themselves known to others, – perhaps they have social anxiety, feel threatened or embarrassed to share frustrations, or are concerned about the stigma of the issue they are facing. Indian social networking sites like Vent All Out allows you to share your problems anonymously. This can be very helpful for reporting bullying at school, college, home or workplace. Recently, a medical student in India posted a video of ragging by his seniors on social media. This not just saved him the horror, but also helped him get massive support on social media and the right punishment for the culprits.
It helps improve social skills
When we are surrounded by problems, the first thing most of us do is withdraw from social situations. For example, in people dealing with depression, a common problem is the reluctance to talk to people closest to them about their problems. By meeting and talking with other social media users, we have a chance to practice social skills and interact more effectively with others. Indian social networking sites that allow you to share your problems anonymously provide a safe place to become comfortable around others once more.

What is social information processing in news aggregation?

The advent of social media platforms such as Digg, Wikis, Flickr, and blogs among others, underscores the change of the web to a participatory channel in which users are cooperatively making, accessing and spreading information.
The technology presented by social networking has to lead to another worldview for communicating with information, it is known as ‘social information processing’. It is an activity through which additive human activities manage knowledge. We can say that it is the creation the processing of information performed by a group of people. Social Information Processing examines the information processing intensity of organized social systems.
What is a news aggregator?
The news aggregator, a software device or online platform that gathers news stories and various information in the manner that organizes and publishes the information in a right manner. This is completed in different ways. Some aggregators are curated by individuals to whom certain sorts of information are of specific import and others utilize HTML programming on the sites of news-collecting organizations to make RSS (really simple syndication) feeds and other open notifications of random updates to news content in regards to a particular subject.
Anatomy of Digg
Digg is known as a social news aggregator that depends on the users to submit and moderate the stories. When a user submits a story, then it goes to the stories queue (upcoming). 15 stories to a page are being displayed at a time with the most recent on at the top. Every minute 1-2 story is submitted and the order of their submission is reverse chronological order. The title of the story works as a link while clicking.
Initially, we show by tracking submitted stories over time, that social channels play a vital role in recommending documents. Secondly, there are two mathematical models. The first one is related to elaborate how collaborative promotion and rating of stories rise up out of the free choices made by numerous users. The second model depicts how the user’s social network, the number of promoted stories and user’s influence, change in time.
A user participates or votes by voting on a story by doing “digging”. Digging always saves it to the history of users. Digg also permits the users to “bury” stories that are recognized to have inappropriate, spam or duplicate materials.
As compared to Reddit (a social news aggregator) burying a story in Digg does not decrease its rating. Rather it is removed permanently if more people do “bury” a story.

Stree - A fun roller coaster ride that scares you and makes you laugh at the same time

“Stree – O StreeKalAana !” To be honest, when I first read the discussion about the movie, ‘Stree’ on various Indian social networking sites, I wasn’t really excited to watch it. It’s not because I don’t like movies, but because Bollywood horror flicks have always disappointed me with their clichéd dialogues, funny portrayal of ghosts, dull screenplays and hilarious plots. Now, since Stree stars my favorite actors, Rajkumar Rao, and Pankaj Tripathi, I decided to give it a try, and I am really glad I did. Here’s why:
Fantastic dialogues, superb performances, brilliant punches, and a great storyline. Wow! That’s some movie to watch. A bow to the scriptwriters and the director for making an amazing movie out of such a stupid concept. But mind you, this movie can drill horror into your nerves even with comic overtone. Here’s the summary of the movie:
‘Stree’ – the movie is based on folklore about a woman who died due to atrocities inflicted on her by men. After her death, she returns as a female evil spirit (Stree) to take revenge from all males in the village. In many rural towns of India, including Chanderi, where the plot is set, it is a common practice to write ‘O StreeKalAana’ on the wall outside the house to ward off the evil spirit. But, our hero, Rajkumar Rao (Vicky), a tailor, who calls himself a “maadernladka” (a modern guy), refuses to indulge in such superstitions.
In the story, the spirit of the female (Stree) takes away men at night during the 4 days on Devi pooja, every year. Shraddha, the mysterious, kohl-eyed woman also happens to visit the village during the same time every year. When she meets Rajkumar Rao, he falls head over heels for her at the first sight.
As the story proceeds, Vicky’s close friend Dana (Abhishek Banerjee) goes missing, then his another close friend, Bittu (AparshaktiKhurrana) tells him that his girlfriend is a ghost and she is none other than the – “Stree”.
Vicky and Bittu then meet Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi), the Ghostbuster who knows a lot about ‘Stree’. They seek his help to get their friend Dana back. In the chilling & madcap comedy cum suspense tale, they get to know several things and the mystery of “Stree”.
DIRECTION
Debutant Director Amar Kaushik, who was an assistant director of films like Go Goa Gone and Fukrey has changed the representation of horror genre in Bollywood with this quirky movie. Amar’s comedy tinged horror story will not just make you scared, and laugh but it will also give you an indirect message telling you to respect women.
THE SCRIPT
After the director, it’s the brilliant script that deserves all the appreciation. Writer Sumit Arora has written a brilliant script that too on such a ridiculous and cliché sounding concept and for that he deserves huge applause. At the outset, ‘Stree’ looks like any other normal comedy horror movie, which is based on the concept of an evil witch and how she terrorizes village males. But, the sarcasm of the movie begins when in the movie women warn their husbands and sons not to stroll late at night, cover their bodies fully etc.
Now isn’t that the situation every girl/ woman has to face every day? AND aren’t her attackers no less than the evil witches? The writer has cleverly raised this issue in the movie without making it boring. Kudos!
This light-hearted, suspense movie comes with a very deep message attached to it till the end. And now the subtitle also makes clear sense to me – IssBaarmard Ko Dard Hoga!
A PERFORMANCE ORIENTED FILM
Talking of the performances now. As I said, the only reason that pulled me to the theatre to watch this movie was – Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi and I must say they did not disappoint me.
Rajkummar Rao once again outperforms everyone with his comic timing and his gullible persona. The portrayal of small town “maadern boy”, Vicky required someone only like Rajkummar Rao. He underplays his innocence very well and adds his special charm to the character. It is this quality of his that makes this performance a brilliant one.
Kohl-eyed Shraddha Kapoor plays a mysterious woman in the movie. Although she doesn’t have many dialogues in the first half of the movie, her expressions will make you believe that she is the “Stree”. She looks cute, acts great and dazzles up the screen with her presence. Overall, a good performance!
I badly missed Pankaj Tripathi in the first half of the film, but he totally owned the second half as a desi Ghostbuster. He will make you laugh whenever he makes an appearance on screen. The scenes between Rajkumar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi make for the most whistle-worthy moments.
AparshaktiKhurrana and Abhishek Banerjee are also brilliant, playing supporting roles.
WHAT’S THE VERDICT?
Talented, gifted, genius, virtuoso, accomplished, masterly, inventive, ingenious are some synonyms of Brilliant. All these words are also synonymous with the greatest asset that we have in Bollywood today – Rajkummar Rao!
So, go watch the movie if you are a fan of Rajkumar Rao. Watch the movie, even if you aren’t because movies like this are rarely made in Bollywood.
Stree-the movie effortlessly travels in the vehicle of humor as a passenger and takes u through dark gullies of horror – the unknown. The humor gets down and boards at regular intervals but everytime it gets on board it will make your heart happy.
Tucked away beneath the scares and the laughs, the movie also carries a feminist subtext. The movie carries the depth of the word, ‘feminism’ in almost all its important scenes which subtly share the frustration that the women had been hiding for a long time.
Overall, ‘Stree’ is a complete entertainment package that will make you Fear, laugh, stare in wonder – all at the same time! This movie is a perfect example of what a film with a good script can achieve. So, get hooked & spooked in this suspense-horror movie blended with comedy and let your heart race up with horror, joy, and excitement like a fun roller coaster ride!

10 Ways to Counter Office Negativity

Everyone has to deal with a certain amount of negativity at work. It not just affects your physical and mental well-being but also affects your performance and ability to think creatively. Nothing makes us dread going to work in the morning like the thought of working in a negative environment. Negative boss, toxic co-workers, unfair compensation, working after hours and office politics can suck the life out of you, especially if you have no trustworthy person to share a frustration with. We know how it feels.
Feeling overwhelmed is our natural response to stress, but if you practice these 10 amazing tips, you might find yourself in a better position to deal with office negativity, successfully.

Find a trustworthy listening ear
Your office is the place where you spend your maximum time during your most productive years. Yes, that’s unfortunate but true. Deal with it. So, the last thing you want there is morale-crushing experiences. Unfortunately, there are many factors in a typical workplace that are beyond your control and you often end up feeling miserable over time. When you are feeling trapped in negativity, the last thing you want to do is argue or defend yourself. You just want someone to listen to you without being judgmental. Fortunately, there are some Indian social networking sites where you can anonymously vent out your frustration, without the fear of being judged or criticized. Other options include talking to a counselor (which costs both time and money; and, believe us — is no joy) or hanging out and unbottling your emotions with a friend who really understands your situation. It really does help to find a listening ear when you’ve been holding frustrations in for an entire day or week.
Take a breather
Whether it stems from your boss’s rude behavior or a client’s tendency to never make payments on time, most of us are familiar with the blood-boiling situations that often arise at work. But when this happens, it’s important to recognize it, acknowledge, and pause before reacting in an angry manner. When the time comes to share frustrations, it is important to wait for the right resources and people. So, it is important to cool down a little and gain a bit of perspective.
Join Online Groups
Share your work complaints, stupidity, stories of injustice etc. on groups that are specifically meant for sharing workplace complaints. Most likely, you are not the only one in a situation like yours. You will find plenty of company. And when you do, you will often find conversations fun. You can find many free Indian social networking sites where you don’t even have to use your real name! How does that sound?
Even if you don’t share your workplace stories, reading the woes of other workers could make you feel better about your own situation. Also, you can find many people there who can lend a listening ear. Some may even offer you valuable advice from their own past experiences. All said we mean that there is a lot you can learn, and these platforms are just the right place to clear your mind.
Play vent out games
If you don’t like to share frustrations related to a workplace with others, try distracting yourself with online games. Online games can help you vent at work. If your frustration level is low, try chucking a paper ball into the office wastebasket. Or, if your level of frustration is on the higher side, shoot rubber bands at virtual colleagues with games like – Rubber Band. If that’s not enough to cool you down, order The Boss Toss plastic shooter. It can help you let out negativity, without subsequent negative consequences.
Maintain a Journal
Venting to a coworker is never a good idea as it can have negative consequences. You should rather consider venting out anonymously on Indian social networking sites that offer a safe place for releasing negative emotions. But, if you don’t like sharing your feelings with others, writing about your feelings in a journal can be quite beneficial. When you record your feelings in a journal, you are able to process your emotions and make sense of what you are feeling. It can also lead you to solutions you may not have thought of otherwise.
Feel gratitude for what you have; write about it
It’s good to share frustrations but counting your blessings can bring lots of positivity in your life. Create a mental habit of noticing the positive in life and be thankful. Make a habit of writing 10 good things you have in your life, every day you wake up in the morning. It helps you rewire your brain in a better way. Also, when you are having a bad day, it will help your focus on your blessings.
Turn your venting session into a brainstorming session
If you vent out your workplace frustrations at the right platforms, you can turn your venting session into a brainstorming session. There are many Indian social networking sites available today where you cannot just post about your problems but also discuss with others to find out possible solutions. It is the best approach to use your frustration for motivation and make positive changes in your life.
Practice Mindfulness
Stressing about past events and worrying about future events hampers your ability to think positively and destroys your peace. So, practice mindfulness and learn to live in the present moment. There are many groups available these days on various Indian social networking sites where you can learn mindfulness exercises. A simple way to start is to focus on your breathing and take your attention away from things that bother you. This will help you feel less upset at work and you’ll feel more energetic and happier.
Learn to say ‘No’
According to the Harvard Business Review, people who take on more work than they can handle because of financial uncertainty are the ones who are the most frustrated. You can relate to it, right? How many times has it happened that you took extra responsibility on your shoulders to please your boss! Don’t take additional work if it gets to a point where your existing projects or work starts suffering. Learn to say ‘No; often and do only what you can handle.
Take breaks and relax
Feeling negative at work can hamper your productivity. According to psychologists, stress shuts down your ability to think creatively and builds frustration. Working without breaks constricts our ability to think. You process things more slowly and make more mistakes. So, take time out to relax and have fun.
Workplace annoyances are inevitable and a part of your professional life. So, when addressing them, it is very important to adopt a constructive approach. Focusing on positives and finding better ways to vent your frustrations will tune down your anger levels and contribute to a healthier workplace environment that will help you and others grow.
